Garage Makeover Cost in the East Bay (2026 Guide)

Updated 2026-10-13 · 9 min · Garage Reframe studio

What a garage makeover costs in Contra Costa and Alameda counties in 2026: junk removal, painting, epoxy and polyaspartic floors, shelving, cabinets, garage doors, plus Garage Reframe’s published fees.

The short answer

A practical organization makeover of a two-car garage in the East Bay — cleanout, hauling, heavy-duty shelving, bins and installation — usually totals $1,800–$6,000. Add paint, a coated floor and a cabinet wall and most projects land between $7,000 and $18,000. A fully custom transformation (gym, showcase garage, workshop) runs $20,000–$60,000 and up.

National averages are lower: Angi reports an $18,000 average garage remodel nationally and $37,400 for California; This Old House puts a basic refresh at $4,200–$8,000 and a mid-range remodel at $14,000–$28,000. Treat national line-item prices as 20–30% low for the East Bay.

What our packages cost

Garage Reframe charges a published design and planning fee; products and contractor work are billed to you directly by the retailer or the licensed pro. Current fees: DIY Garage Organization from $149 · Signature Garage Makeover from $995 · Complete Garage Transformation from $2,495 · White Glove from $5,995 with a $1,000 planning payment credited toward the fee.

A realistic Signature project: $995 fee + $500 hauling + $600 shelving and racks + $150 bins and hooks + $400 installation ≈ $2,650. A realistic Complete project: $2,495 fee + $700 cleanout + $1,400 paint + $3,800 polyaspartic floor + $2,000 cabinets and slatwall + $600 installation ≈ $11,000.

What drives the price up or down

  • Prep. A floor coating over a ground, repaired, moisture-checked slab costs more up front and lasts; cheap prep is the most common reason coatings peel.
  • Volume. Hauling is priced by truck fraction; sorting donations and hazardous waste out first can halve the load.
  • Walls. Anchoring overhead racks and slatwall into 24-inch studs or masonry takes longer than drywall on 16-inch centers.
  • Doors. An insulated door makes a gym or workshop viable but adds $1,800–$3,000; HOA-approved styles cost more.
  • Power. Any gym, workshop or EV plan that needs a 240V circuit or subpanel work moves the project into licensed-electrician territory.
  • Timing. Fall and early winter are the slow season for home-improvement trades; quotes are often sharper from October to February.
