See DIY OrganizationHeavy-duty steel shelving units run $100–$300 each; overhead racks $150–$300 per 4×8 ft; track and slatwall systems $25–$200 per section. Installer labor is typically $60–$100 an hour in the East Bay.
Ranges are published third-party and retailer figures observed October 2026, not quotes. Your contractors set the price; see the cost guide.

Concept render on a sample garage — not a completed project.
Garage walls in the East Bay vary a lot: 1960s Concord ranch houses have drywall over 16-inch studs, newer Brentwood and San Ramon tracts often have 24-inch spacing and fire-rated drywall on the house side, and Lafayette hillside garages can hide concrete. We plan anchors and load paths for the wall you have.
We favor products that are returnable and replaceable: Husky and Gladiator steel shelving, SafeRacks and FLEXIMOUNTS overhead racks, Gladiator GearTrack, Rubbermaid FastTrack and Proslat wall systems, IKEA BROR for lighter zones. The plan lists every unit, bracket and lag.
For overhead racks and anything carrying more than a few hundred pounds we specify installation by a handyman or installer, quoted to you directly.
